Pantone LLC (; стилизованно как PANTONE) — американская компания с ограниченной ответственностью со штаб-квартирой в, штат Нью-Джерси. Наиболее популярна своей одноимённой системой подбора цветов, используемой в различных отраслях, например в графическом дизайне,, и печатании.

История

Компания Pantone начала свою деятельность в Нью-Джерси в 1950-х годах как коммерческая типография братьев Мервина и Джесси Левинов (M&J Levine Advertising). В 1956 году её основатели, работавшие в сфере маркетинга, наняли на неполный ставку недавнего выпускника Университета Хофстра Лоуренса Герберта в качестве сотрудника. Благодаря этим усовершенствованиям к 1962 году он возглавил прибыльное подразделение чернил и печати. Используя свои познания в химии, Герберт систематизировал запасы пигментов компании и оптимизировал процесс изготовления цветных чернил. Базовая продукция компании – это цветовые гиды Pantone Guides, представляющие собой большое количество небольших (примерно 15 × 5 см) тонких листов картона или пластика, на одной стороне которых напечатана серия связанных цветовых образцов, скрепленных в небольшой веер. Например, на одной странице может быть несколько оттенков жёлтого цвета.

Цвет года

Начиная с 2000 года Институт цвета Pantone объявляет один из цветов «Цветом года». Цвет выбирается на секретных встречах, проходящих дважды в год в какой-либо из европейских столиц. После двух дней презентаций и обсуждений выбирается один цвет для следующего года. Например, цвет лета 2013 года был выбран весной 2012 года в Лондоне. Цвет призван олицетворять Дух времени; например, в презентации цвета 2011 года говорилось: «Во времена стресса нам нужно что-то для поднятия настроения. Жимолость — пленительный, стимулирующий цвет, вызывающий выброс адреналина, он идеально подходит для борьбы с хандрой». Результаты встреч публикуются в журнале Pantone View, на который затем ссылаются дизайнеры одежды, флористы и другие ориентированные на потребителей компании, планирующие свои будущие продукты.
